Having seen some of this whilst visiting 3 years ago I doubt it will be much use against more than a simple high tide, the Chinesium steel was causing concerns as well, but the Venice lagoon also has significant river inflows so this may actually trap more water at times. Then the other problem discussed is these 'tanks' are 'hinged' and need to be able to settle back down when reflooded to lower, so debris stirred up by a storm may jam the hinges, or simply fill the space below, unlike the Thames barrier which 'sweeps' as it rotates up and down.
