    As a young kid in the late 50's (about 8 or 10), my grand-dad had a drill press exactly like that one.
    It was out in a building on his farm; which also served as a pig barn.
    I spent a lot of time cranking that thing.........with nothing on the table; I just liked to see things spin.
    The pawl and ratchet was fascinating to watch, too. Could've been the same brand, IDK.

    Uncanny. I'd wager 95% of persons on this site, and the many other [but pale] mechanical forums relate an early fascination, starting their own pursuit.
    The lucky ones have it a lifetime.

    At the same time, our educational "experts" see vocational exposure as unwarranted.
