My neighbor uses an very old hand crank corn sheller. That rasp spinning wheels peel the walnut husk right off.
The Black Walnuts grow wild around here. I hate them, damn squirrels plant them everywhere, The sprouts are hard to kill after the second year of growing. I've learned to use a pick axe, and pierce down an inch or so on the far side, and then pull up, this severs the tap root deep enough to kill the deeper tap. Works super well at Burdock, Thistle weeds as well.
