This reminds me of something that happened to me. Winter of '77 had an blistering cold patch; abt -20F. For some stupid reason, I was out in it. For a reason I don't recall, I was pulled over by a city cop.

He had his ticket pad out, pen in hand. After a bit (in a howling wind, while I was in my car), he told me that the ink in his pen had frozen and he could not write the ticket. Told me that I was lucky that time.

Funny-I didn't think to loan him my pen...
