    Captain, I just noticed this lathe post, and wanted to say I really like it.
    I am presently building a wood lathe, using, yes! A treadmill motor!

    First class execution of a not so simple collection of features and parts. A certain US based global corporation likes to call that "...built in, not bolted on...".
    Projects like Captainleeward's great lathe display far more ingenuity and real engineering than 'homemade' imply.
    It doesn't give away a thing to like sized commercial units, short of old Yates-American (since 1883, but not lathes anymore) and Oliver (still produced but in name only).
    And running lights? All us seafarers appreciate them.
