That was beautiful! There are so many different ways that general idea would not work in the real world, and you elegantly worked around all of them! It was fascinating watching the machine kick out perfect billets from log after log and not jam up.
Thanks
Yes, I was a little surprised myself that it went so well. I made a small modification at the beginning so that the wood would not fill up and get stuck under the horizontal wedge.
If there is anyone here who wants to make something similar so just ask.
I am happy to send close-ups of details, give measures of parts, etc.
Fun if someone does that and maybe takes it to a higher / better level. For example. with integrated cutting of the log.

Nice work!
That is pure genius! Sooooo glad I do not have to do wood anymore. That would have saved so much time. I would definitely be coping that idea if I was still up North. Nice job.
Thank you :)
I have gradually found that it is much more economical to buy dry spruce (which has died and dried on the root). It only costs approx. 20% of ordinary timber and is ready for use when it is split. I also feel that it is about the same calorific value as with ordinary spruce. Just a feeling when I see how it burns comparing to ordinary spruce.
I took away two wedges to get bigger pieces. It does not need to be dried and then it is fine with larger pieces of wood. I have a big oven. Fires my workshop with firewood.
Then I put on a stronger hydraulic cylinder (16 tons).
With a good chainsaw, this splitter helps me make several tons of firewood in one day.

Are there plans available for this splitter? I would add a Lift on it to pick up large pcs. and save my back but I also use mostly birch.
Thanks,Jack
Hi Jack
I have also used a lot of birch before I started buying dry spruce.
I do not have any drawings on the wood splitter because I made it directly from my head.
But I can take some close-ups, and give you the measurements of the materials I have used. And then just ask along the way.
It's fun that you want to create a similar splitter with additional features.
I'm unpacking it and taking pictures tomorrow.

Sorry, but that would simply not work in Australia one decent iron bark log would stop it in it's tracks to quote the film, ironbark grain goes "every which way but straight"
