    Woodworking multi-joint - GIF

Woodworking multi-joint. I wonder if the multi-coolness of this joint is cancelled out by its lack of strength. Still interesting.

Now lets see how you cut the joint. I would imagine once glued up there would be sufficient strength for your average coffee table corner post or edging.

Many years ago I saw a race between two experienced woodworking friends making a dovetail joint. the one who won, by a few seconds, hand cut the full joint while the other used a dovetail jig and router. They were both extremely quick and accurate. Imagine having been taught, by the one who won, manual arts (which was his profession). Practice, speed in marking out and function leed to fast accurate work.

PONDER THIS as I have done- how long the Japanese joiners took to make such joints that allowed buildings to be strong enough to carry weight & experience strong wind forces and yet be DISMANTLED AND STORED at first indication of an earthquake.

    Regards, Ranald
