    This is the best way of holding material for turning chisel handles that I have found. I have found a taper on the drill bit. The hole saw does not of course bore an exact fit for a ferrule. Sometimes it’s too loose, sometimes too tight.

    That should work dandy. I've seen Forstner drill bits used in a similar manner with good results.
