    Dragging the vehicle off to a wide spot does a lot of things but most importantly it quickly clears the lanes so not to impede traffic for any longer than necessary.
    Probably wouldn't be a good idea with a loaded trailer, But looking at the trailer it looks as though maybe the top was removed and most of the load emptied out.
    the trailer being frameless tells me that it was a dry van the round tank under the trailer denotes that it was a refrigerated van , those sides don't have the structural strength on their own without the bows rails and top skin to stand on their own nor to serve as the trailer frame.

    Oshkosh 8x8 doing the business, probably weighs more the the tractor and trailer combined.
