    They have Roofs 40ft thick and some had double roofs. The idea being that the first roof would explode the bomb thereby protecting the second roof. They were bombed night and day by the RAF and the US air force. Yet they are still there to this day.

    They are so well constructed that the French navy are still using them in Brest for ship repairs. In St Nazarine they could not demolish them so they turned a couple of pens into a museum and rented others to ship repair companies.
    You can still see the German slogans on the inside walls as you tour them. You can see lots of them down the west coast of France.
