The British have a long history of being very good at wartime innovation but this invention didn't last long. It supposedly took a couple hundred soldiers quite a bit of time to set it up for maybe three terrifying bursts. It would have been a very easy target for artillery after the initial surprise.

That suit was almost certainly made of asbestos, too.
