Allied 1/4-ton bomb dropped during the fall of 1943 to wipe out a nearby radio (DF) station,
this dud stayed buried 13 ft below grade until last summer, when its initiation mech apparently had degraded just enough to ignite.

Just think how many times that bomb has been passed over by someone operating a tractor or other equipment?

I believe I would be investing in a very good metal detector at this point.
