I didn't mention homophone errors. English, being a language of accretion, is a veritable font of homophones. Couple that with a populace that thinks writing is a way of recording spoken syllables and the result is sad, bordering on maddening.

Years ago, when the schools stopped teaching anything but feel-good psycho-babble, I predicted that it wouldn't be too long before we would need to revive the use of scribes, professional writers who would write your letter/job application/college application for you so you at least appeared to be literate. I think we've reached that point, albeit earlier than I had anticipated.

A major grrrrrrr for me. All kinds of advertising was very prevalent mid 2000's for having resume prepared "professionally". Well, needless to say, the pitch didn't hook me; but loved to bait them anyhow.
Now the problem is the headhunters using AI, as if search words detect real content. Uhh, no. Gawd, the offers that pour in; no conceivable link between them.

If you have no familiarity with the vocabulary, you will NOT be conducting anything related to my employment. Recall posting substantial amount concerning that in Shop Truths, Phrases, Tales; and Outright Lies.

The local paper 'Kansas City Star' published a lengthy article deriding psycho-babble; especially permeating workplaces, worse yet at corporate level. I saved a copy; apparently they need to rerun it, targeting a new audience.

Hear that, New England here. A scrapyard near me used to let you buy scrap but no longer do. Years back a truck came in and dumped off a steam engine. It was all broken up but it had been whole recently. Asked the driver what the deal was and it came from a mill basement being converted to condos. To get it out they tore down a side wall then dragged it out by crane (over the foundation, probably granite). That broke parts off like the flywheel & linkages. Still had great original paint.

/escapes ww2 scrap drive, in use or too disruptive to remove it

Something that really irritates me, you can go to dump off stuff at a scrap yard and see perfectly good material in the pile. They will not let you buy it at any price. I did manage to get some nice short stainless steel round stock, about 2" diameter by 5-6" long. I could easily weight out heavier than when I weigh in, if they would let me.

I stopped going to the yard above for this reason. Probably the last time I went they had a pile of 80s aftermarket VW rims in the aluminum pile. Nope, no buy.

There are a couple smaller yards around me that still do, but yet to see anything epic show up. I get aluminum & steel plate from them barely priced over scrap.
