WWII staged photo showing milkman at work during the Blitz.

"Fred Morley wanting to get some sort of record of the devastation out to the world thought of a situation that the censors would approve. He first found a backdrop of firefighters struggling to contain a fire then he borrowed a milkman's outfit and a craft of bottles. He then got his assistant to pose among the ruins of a city street while the firefighters fought in the background. The photo pushed forward the idea of the stoic British continuing on with their normal lives. The censors felt the same way and it was published the very next day."

My girlfriend's grandmother is nearly 100 years old. She was a schoolgirl during the Blitz. She said if one of the children didn't show up in the morning, everyone knew what happened but they all had to continue on with their lessons.

My parents grew up on dairy farms, and met when my dad was delivering the usual dairy order to my grandmother's house. He slipped on the ice in her driveway.

I always joke that I have Mom's eyes and the milkman's nose, but I do. Milkman are awesome. (Dad is actually a lifelong firefighter, though. He was just working his way through school delivering for the dairy.)
