    WWII Yamato-class battleship steam turbines - photos

    The Imperial Japanese Navy's Yamato-class battleships were the heaviest battleships ever constructed. Twelve boilers power four massive steam turbines to propel the 72,000-ton warships up to 27 knots (50 km/h; 31 mph).

    I wonder what those stacks are that are aft of the boiler rooms. Steam vents for the turbines? Exhaust for diesel generators? General ventilation? Getting from the deck to the bowels of the ship in a hurry?
