Xtra Tall V-Block

On several occasions I have had the need for an Xtra Tall V-Block, in fact one that was around 5” tall would have been nice on several occasions, one that stands vertically that can be used on the surface grinder, drill press, milling machine or on the surface plate for inspection purposes, one that has a right angle base with a nice rigid clamp.

So I came up with this design, this tool is made to hold round stock up to 1.250” and will hold square stock up to 1.000”, the V-Block is fabricated from three pieces of 4140 Pre-Hardened Steel that has been precision ground all over prior to machining, the three pieces that make up the Xtra Tall V-Block are assembled with six 1/4" dowel pins and secured together with five 1/4" socket head cap screws, then after assembly just the critical surfaces were reground, it is within .0003” in a 5” distance from being perfectly square.
