    1" beltsander/grinder

    1" Belt Sander/Grinder

I built a beltsander for a 1" belt, to be able to sand very tight spots on some plywood figures I made.
This unit turned out to be very useful.

Video in the bottom of the post!!

All the parts are made from baltic birch plywood and a few bearings along with nuts and bolts.
The powertrain is an old corded powerdrill.

The right side of the sander contains a dust port, and is removable for belt change.

A thin support platen is installed behind the lower half of the belt, and the upper part can be used for flex sanding.

The wheels are plywood discs turned on the lathe.
This is the upper wheel that is used for tightening the belt, and for the tracking.

The left side cover, housing the powerdrill, has the power switch as well as vent holes for the heat dissipation for the motor.

I also made some plans/measured drawings available for the sander if you would like to build it yourself.
