Couldn't imagine any other plane than a stringbag (Fairey Swordfish) being slow enough to land on it, though it appears to have had rocket assistance to get off again. The stringbag was famous for being so slow that AA gunners often missed in front, enabling the crews to press home torpedo attacks such as on the Bismarck.

Strictly she wasn't, according to my son who is in the RN (and the official war record), they disabled her allowing surface ships to catch up and sink her.
