BTW: -I just love the sound and motion of that shaper!

I was a bit concerned that the cross slide would bind on its gib/ dovetails when you tightened it down for the first time,
as I personally think the cross slide's longitudinal T-slots are actually weakening it, where it really should be the strongest.

One of these days I'll come around making a new, longer and somewhat thicker cross slide for my 7 x14",
with (Myford-ish) transverse T-slots for mounting the compound when threading, or a simple rigid tool holding block or milling slide.

But then, as you said - many other jobs to take on at work and in the family home...
