I used to work at a coal terminal. Pretty neat. There are a ton of different types of coal, some of them are chemically unstable. They have to spray them with water regularly or they can spontaneously combust in the presence of oxygen. Weird.

Also synthetic coal as a byproduct from the oil and gas industry.
