Hi,
See link for the design I used.
I added wheels and it works fine.
I've also used a solid block of wood (tree stump), in the past and this was also ok.

Good luck

You could use a metal garbage can or metal drum. Fill with 6 to 8 inches sand, use a tree stump or four 6"x6" timbers bolted together in the center. Timber length should be a comfortable working height for you, back fill with sand (great sound and vibration absorber). If you go with casters, use 5, not 4, to prevent it from tipping over and a couple layers of plywood between the casters and the can for better weight distribution. The metal can and sand would also be pretty fire safe, if you're forging metals. Great anvil by the way! Hope this helps.
Hi Rob! I joined this forum Yesterday night! It's huge!
Really a nice job this stand, the leather belt for tools is beautiful
thanks debrourke!
Got a question, many of you have advised me to put sand, or other damping compound and that's good! But my curiosity tells me: It's so noisy the sound coming from stand? I've never heard, that's why I ask ;)
The sand helps reduce some of the noise from the anvil (make the neighbors and your ears happy) and the vibration from repetitive strikes from the hammer, which can cause injury to your body over time (hearing, joint and nerve damage). It depends how much time you plan to spend working at the anvil, per day.
Great job!
