I remember going there as a kid, not long after it was built, and taking the tour. Everyone got a small piece of the newly designed "Astroturf" as a parting gift. From the picture it shows how it was built like a pillbox on Normandy. Also amazing is how there was nothing out there at the time. Houston has sure grown since then.
