    As far as I am aware the stylus holder ring moves a split friction fit lever, they can be quite tight to move but no damage will occur as the mechanism has positive stops internally. It can feel like your over forcing things but thats how they work. I used to repair Tesa indicators mostly damaged from sideways knocks, sheared stylus threads, bearings etc. Pictured part is one I have yet to repair.
