What a simple, elegant solution. Its inventor should get the Nobel prize for ingenuity, if there were one.

At very least, the Nobel Peace Prize. They practically give those away.

Use of the prize to express Sweden's liberality cheapens the prizes issued for genuine accomplishments. They should dump the peace prize and use the money saved to establish a mathematics prize.

Sorry Marv, but that misconception calls for some correction:
"In accordance with Alfred Nobel's will, the recipient is selected by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, a five-member committee appointed by the Parliament of Norway."

Long story short: Sweden & Norway were in fact a union (up 'til Oct 26th 1905) -
hence Mr Nobel thought it a good idea for the Norwegians to issue the Peace Prize from 1901 onwards
(instead of the, then and formerly, militaristic Sweden).

Some other American Peace Prize Laureates:
Henry Kissinger (w Le Duc Tho),
Jimmy Carter and
Al Gore (w IPCC) to name a few fairly recent controversies...

-But all of us cock-sure Swedes still have quite a few other options for showing off our world-renowned liberality... :)
