Yes. It's a fast growing valuable biomass crop that is also used for food and wood-like products.

I had the same reaction after having fought a small backyard patch of bamboo for years.

Something surprising that I learned about it though is that fabric can be made from bamboo similarly to the way that linen is made from flax. I bought a set of bed sheets made from bamboo and I found them to be softer and cooler than cotton sheets and now that's all I'll buy. Who'da thunk it?

Of course there's runner and clumping. We have a pot of clumping, the pot is on pavement just to make sure.

A neighbor had bamboo in his yard decades ago. We're still killing it here.

An added bonus of that stuff is the bamboo mites that live on the underside of the leaves. When you're in bamboo and you feel sort of like you've got fiberglass on your skin, it's the bites of the mites that you're feeling.
