My belief is in avoidance if at all possible. But if the guy is going to go to an area and antagonize a bear, he might consider investing in a quick draw pepper spray holster. My preference in a charging situation would be a 454 Casuall, then let my atty, argue my decision to attempt to save my own life and those who may be accompanying me rather than P*** off a 700lb killing machine.
