    Bench

And here is my homemade bench :

There is a vertical press on the left (I don't use it very often)

On the right I have a quick release press, I use it always ...

I have two big drawers, for my planes, chisels and gouges.

It is entirely made with relatively cheap 7cmx7cm poles. It's probably not as nice as the hardwood bench we can see here or there, but actually, it's a good alternative, for really cheap, and it does the work.
So every thing , top, legs, structure, is done with an assembly of these 7x7(cm) pine poles. To assemble the top, or the couple of poles for the legs, I used a faux tenon, meaning I cut a groove with the rooter on both pieces and glue a strip of plywood between them.
The structure is assembled with regular tenons and mortises.

    The top is planed flat.
I have a number of 20 mm holes on the top that are useful for all kinds of accessories (dogs, etc ..) I think I have already showed some o them ...

Looks nice and sturdy. I'm with Paul Sellers -- I don't think they have to be made out of hardwoods... and I think bench tops are MEANT to be beat on. Maybe we shouldn't deliberately drill it full of holes and slather it with glue but isn't it meant to be used. Cracks me up to see these guys with these high end benches and they use all kinds of things so that nothing ever really touches the bench...

That is one very sturdy and useful workbench! I recognize the benchtop from some of your other tool photos and often wondered what the rest of the bench looked like. Nice work on the drawer. Hand planning the bench top must be quite a workout! I love seeing used and useful workbenches. Thanks for the photos.
