    Bent railroad tracks after earthquake - photos

    Bent railroad tracks in Kahramanmaras, Turkey after the region was hit by two powerful earthquakes two weeks ago.

    Just imagine the stored energy from the bending stresses in those rails. I wouldn't want to be there when they cut them loose.

    Before cut, apply heat at both ends of the bend and the spring action is deactivated.

    At first I did not think these photos were real. No sight of the cracks showing earth moved in different directions. Then I found the same track from a different angle which does show the crack running from the top right of both pictures to the bottom left.

    Impressive not only for the damage and bending, but for the photography as well.
