One might ask why there are so many bicycles in the canal.

I was told that more bicycles are stolen in Amsterdam in 1 day than the amount stolen through out the rest of the world combined.
I spent a couple weeks in Zandvoort just South of Amsterdam Proper. I had rented a car but bought a bicycle to get around town and go to be beach on. 3 different guys tried to steal it within the first 2 hours of owning it
Never try to tell me it can't be done
When I have to paint I use KBS products

Dutch gin is powerful stuff. The absence of guard rails along many of the canals doesn't help.

I was there on a long weekend away with the misses a couple of years back. We were on the bridge that had lots and lots of padlocks on it, just gazing up the canal watching the world go by. Along comes this bloke on his bike, cursing away in his own language and gets off the bike. He kicks the wheel and tyre and curses some more, then chucks the bike in the canal, as it had a flat tyre. Off he wandered and went out of sight. He probably found another bike soon enough, I reckon?
