I would guess that is a 250cc engine. Maybe get a liter bike engine and really wake up that VW.

There used to be a "Bond Minicar" in England many years ago that was powered by a 250 two stroke engine mounted on a pillar under the bonnet that could swing 180 dergees, that also carried the drive wheel (three wheeler) at the front. So to get out(or into) a tight parking spot the front could turn at 90 degrees to the centre line of the car. being a two stroke to get reverse you stopped the engine changed the forward ignition system to the rearward ignition system, and the engine ran backwards, (with 4 gears in reverse)
My father had one,......horrid thing!

In the early 1970's Honda produced two sports (Fun) cars based on their 360cc and 600cc motorbike engines. (I think they had one based on their 750cc engine as well)
Found a brochure for it, but I seem to recall it looked way cooler at the time.

Link in my previous post has a picture of the s600 which is what you might be thinking of.

Yes, I recall now, in Australia(at least), I think it was called a HONDA ZOT.
