Car drives onto train tracks, gets hit by train - GIF

Car drives onto train tracks, gets hit by train. Looks like the train maybe got a little advance warning, but still couldn't stop in time to prevent smacking the car. A quick search for train braking distance yields some interesting results.

I am wondering if they were still sitting in the car. It looked like the driver was either confused when they entered the track crossing or maybe even under the influence of something. The guy who tolled the officer to back up has probably seen something like this before, and knew it might not end well for anyone too close to the tracks
Never try to tell me it can't be done

Strange but often people have turned onto the tracks. I have seen reports of GPS telling people to turn.

Another 1/4 mile and that train would have been stopped. Looks like best case scenario to me! Hope that guy has good insurance! Fixing trains is expensive and they don't typically total them in an accident.

Modern diesel engines are so modular now. I don't think I've ever heard of one being totaled. It's kind of like Legos. I'm not saying that it's cheap though.
