The wiki article is short but interesting. Among the details, this photo is on the dust jacket of a book on error analysis, as one of the most famous accident depictions in transportation history. There was one death on the street below, a woman identified as Marie-Augustine Aguilard.

I wonder if this crash inspired the locomotive tearing through Chicago Station in the end of movie "Silver Streak".

There was/ is a Silver Streak serving across Los Angeles County, an articulated bus...not quite the same image as travel by rail.
