What is your reason for needing a hammer with a carbide inserts? I would expect that the brittleness of carbide would be detrimental for a hammer. Or am I missing something?

It would depend on the type of carbide as to how brittle it was. Maybe a C12 grade. My "hit" is it is for soft metals and peening and shaping small sheet metal pieces¿
