Here's an idea for a possible money maker - There's a decorating style subculture called "steampunk". It makes use of old mechanical hardware like pipe fittings and small machinery parts to make furniture and interior decorating things like lamps. Old iron/steel pipe fittings are a frrequently used material now even more available as plumbing fixtures in homes move towars plastics. With the right mix of paint the slightly tapered pipe threads will asssemble solidly if not completely leak proof. This crude dipping method is a simple and fast way to put a rust resistant decorative final finish on them before final assembly of the lamp or similar product.. The color doesn't have to be bright red. Black will work fine. Flat, semigloss or gloss. Oil base or latex. Best to experiment a little.
