    Looks like there was a malfunction of the braking sequence just prior to the platform dropping there was a sudden slow down instead of the smooth slowing of the platform on the other side, This leads me to think the brake of some other part suddenly stopped the winch movement, overstressing the connection point and the platform was allowed to free fall the final few meters. The independent freefall prevention braking may or may not had sufeincent distance to arrest the fall before the platform struck the bed of cushion springs at the very bottom. At the very least the riders could have experienced 1 full negative G when the platform struck bottom. Possibly not enough to kill anyone but with all of them already sitting there would have several serious spinal compression injuries plus some other broken bones from flailing arms
