Complete Klotz Utilities on the Web

    Enjoy...

I'm a grey-haired programmer and hobby machinist/gunsmith who's spent too many years collecting code and data that deserves to survive. I build stuff in the shop that I don't think of as worthy to bother you with, but my day job for 40 years has been building tools that involve your your keyboard and mouse... this I want to share.

    https://www.mkutils.com

Marv Klotz (mklotz on this site) wrote some 130 utility programs for machinists, engineers, and shop hobbyists — I found these about 30 years ago and have had the library on every computer I've owned since. I've been converting the ones that I used to web utilities for ages. This age of AI has given me the tools to do the complete set. I couldn't let it go. Here they are: calculators that anyone can use from any browser — no downloads, no accounts, no paywalls. The calculators will always be free.

It's not a new idea... others have seen the utilities and you can find chunks like this: https://github.com/jackr-m/mklotz but I think this is the most complete and usable version I've seen. There is still some graphics to fix, but it is ready.

If you these tools useful, a coffee helps keep the server lights on and the project
    moving forward.

    Rod

    A huge

    THANK YOU !

to Rod Brown for all he's done in making this site work. While I have some skill doing the math and programming, I have zero ability and even less patience with getting it running on the interweb. Now that it's in a more immediately usable form, I hope all of you will make use of it and send Rod your thanks for making it so.

    A brief history...

I wrote the programs back in the days of DOS. A kind Canadian programmer, Scott Ripley, developed an interest in the work and hosted a website for me. With the advent of Windows, the programs would no longer execute and interest in the website flagged. It was still possible to run the programs using a DOS emulator (e.g. DOSbox) but most folks didn't want to jump through those hoops. Then, sadly, Scott died (on his 50th birthday) and the website disappeared. (Although it can still be found in the archives...https://web.archive.org/web/20230526.../mklotz/#intro)

In the site's heyday, many folks asked me for permission to convert the programs to run under Windows. I always granted permission, which was superfluous since the downloads from the website contained the source code so everything was obviously in the public arena. Very few programs were ever converted, perhaps due to the sheer number of them on the site.

So, you can imagine how surprised and pleased I was when Rod contacted me to tell me that he had made the programs executable and, more importantly, had set up this webpage where anyone could have easy access to them.

Thanks for the thanks!! I'm glad to see folks appreciate this.
I'm updating this every few days... the latest update includes a UI that loads fast and look OK on a mobile phone. More to come! Enjoy.

A big thanks to Rod, but an even bigger thanks to Marv for having the will, knowledge, foresight and time to create this huge volume of useful calculators. Thank you both.

Marv, Sharing one's valuable intellectual property and experience is one of the greatest gifts for all. Words do not equal my appreciation of the tools you have given.

Rod, the time and effort you put into "cracking the code" has provide us a readily useful tool box. The GUI is beautiful and navigation is effortless. On every click I thank you for what you have done for us.

    Bony and Saltfever,

Many thanks for your kind thoughts. Freely sharing plans, techniques and ideas is one of the most beneficial aspects of the internet. The pleasant feeling I get from knowing that someone, somewhere is deriving benefit from something I've done makes it all worthwhile.
