    Crankshaft seal installing tool

When installing any oil seal it is very vital the seal is not damaged while being driven in and is driven to the proper depth as well as being perfectly aligned Many seals do not have a locator ring of flange to set the depth so the installation tool must compensate for this
Before removing the old seal I made note of the depth it was installed then machined a few simple items to fabricate a simple install tool

That had the added bonus of installing the seal while the shaft was in place!
Much easier then removing the timing cover and using a press. Assuming this is the normal route to seal replacement.
Did that card board seal inside spreader come with the seal? I think that's what it is.....

Yes the carboard seal lip protector is in the seal when you get it. These seals are not rubber or neoprene they have some kind of a fluoro-elastomer for the sealing. What the composition of it is is anybody's guess but to last for over a million miles it is something good. The lip protector insures the size and the shape of the seal lip is not compromised during packaging storage and shipment.
So much more is the reason why I always use an install tool and have made so many through out the years , I've bought a lot of them as well
