Didn't actually throw him out as much as tossed him around inside due to him not wearing his safety belt, but why did he run away as soon as he exited the van?

Probably because the van was still moving, and he was afraid it or another vehicle would hit him. For some reason, that is not an unusual behavior. Even folks who are severely injured will do that. Know of a guy who either ran several yards from an aircraft accident he was involved in on a broken hip, or broke his hip after running those several yards.

The same reason that you scramble away from your riding mower when it flips over on you..........damage/injury time may not be over. I was amazed how fast I was able to crawl, almost at a running pace.

Perhaps he didn't want to wait around to get a ticket for not yielding the left-of-way.

Awesome tuck and roll, almost like he trained for it, the front of the Merc that hit him looks barely scuffed.

That's some good awareness and survival skills! He saw the back end of that van coming at him and took off like a shot!
