    Well profit may not be the only thing but it sure is high on the list in today's world at least. but time was if you didn't have a shaper in your machine shop you wern't considered a fully equipped shop

    Is it just my eyes of is the edge of the tooth a bit wavy? The space between the teeth also looks too narrow. Perhaps this is a rough cutting process to finish later?

    There has to be some serious pressure on that cutter when it gets to full depth.

    There has to be some serious pressure on that cutter when it gets to full depth.
    You are correct the sides are wavy because they will be finish ground in the final process.
    the cutter only slices away small amounts each pass the gear is rotated left and right in decreasing amounts as the cut deepens until the cut profile is nearly complete
