Is that some kind of composite material? I knew some of the OSB manufacturers were looking into doing interesting things. Anybody know what material that is?

One problem with that stuff is the cut edges expose the internal material, which is ugly compared to the laminated outer surface. Anyone with a truck and a tape measures can now build decks, etc. But the results are often very unsightly. I would be interested to see how that cut edge is finished .

To me the construction of the stairs is questionable. The tread should be on top of the stringer and riser, rather than being nailed or screwed into the end grain. If the plan is to cover those with the same composite material, the wood structure still had to be assembled correctly. None of the composites are structural.

Who the H**l would build stairs like that?? Totally unacceptable as the stringer needs to be under the tread & behind the kick board. The tread also need to overhang the kick board so it is supported between the stringers! Just a piece of crap!

I know where there are some old 2 story buildings with outside wood stairs built in the 1800s that people still to this day use.

I have made many sets of stairs open stringers and closed stringers. How to count what has been done wrong.

Screws do not make up for sound structural thinking.

And I agree with Hemmjo and Wildwilly. What a terrible job.

Now in regards to internal stringers I use plywood now. Laminate up some double 3/4" spruce and you are golden. Lay it up as long as you want to. Getting quality dimensional lumber like when I was a kid is not exactly cheap or readily available. If I can find 1mm lamination Poplar that works very well to.

I conjecture that the risers and treads will be covered with the composite material, overhanging the cut edges, with sealant applied to the joints, before erecting the balustrade game. I suppose the purpose of the video was to show how a spiral bit in a router can be made to follow a line. Surely that softwood is not for outdoors?
