I have the same exact setup except for a plastic bucket instead of metal. I bungee strapped it to the handlebar of my shop vac.
It saves my shop vac HEPA filters and now they last a really long time. I clean it before machining brass, which makes it easy to collect the brass shavings for other uses and recycling. And it's also easier to recover an item if it gets inadvertently sucked up!
