    If a strap becomes knotted, getting it undone is a chore. Soak in water and work the knot open with a fid, marlin or bos'n spike. Sometimes twisting strap or line where it exits knot helps, while pushing into the knot. Once untied, lay previously knotted area out on smooth surface, roll repeatedly and firmly, as a baker would.
    If you still feel or see deformation, it's compromised and best to discard.
