    Direct Indexing Sharpening Fixture

On my last post I had designed and built a dividing fixture for cutting some metric gears, Well that all came out fine and dandy, Now the cutters are dull !!
So I designed a fixture to resharpen the cutters using my surface grinder, In the photos you will notice I have set the surface grinder up with a flared cup wheel, That's just to show the process, I have ordered a 30° dish wheel which will do the actual grinding of the cutters.

The majority of the fixture was made from 1018 C.R.S. All except for the indexing pin which is O-1 drill rod that has a hardened point, The 2 knobs were made from 360 brass round. All surfaces were precision ground before assembly.

I decided to use the direct method of indexing instead of the blade type, Which uses an existing tooth for indexing, This type of indexing will allow me to do a lot of different things other than just sharpening, This fixture can also be clamped in the Mill vise or on the table as well.

I'm using a NEW 36 tooth gear for dividing, Which will also allow me to make a lot of different divisions that are equally divided, Such as 2,3,4,6,9,12,36, I also have a variety of other NEW gears with the same pitch with different numbers of teeth which will make this a very useful tool.

    Below are some photos

As always thanks for looking and happy machining
