Drill Press Table Modification-------E Z Clampable drill press table

Drill Press Table Modification. Made from 3/4 inch Doug fur and 5200 calking.

How many times have we wanted to use clamp on a vise or work piece on the drill press table, only to find those support ribs right in the way.
So my answer to this is to fill up the space with wood and now I can clamp any where I like as well as use the bolt holes. you can to now.

note 5200 marine calking is so strong I have used it to seal thru hull fittings.I had to double shim it on either side of the slot under the wood to get it level,so when I put the clamp on it would not brake the wood. Be sure to fasten all work properly.

They are called Tee Nuts or, more properly, Tee Slot Nuts:

Not the sheet metal ones that are made for wood. But the ones that are machined from solid steel. They come in many sizes and you need to buy some that fit your table's slots. Then you can locate a stud at any place along the slot. They work with Tee slots that are found on the better tables and also with just plain through slots as found on the less expensive DP tables.

Or just buy the nuts and studs and use your own clamps.

Hello Paul A. Your suggestion to use TeeNuts is a good one. I personally like to use clamps for the set up, much quicker and no oil and swarf on my hands...
plus the swarf gets in the threads and nuts making them hard to turn, yes, clamps work best for me gosh what a time saver..Merry Christmas to you aswell. an ...Thank you for your suggestions, :thumbsup:

Great remedy Captainleeward. Beats my method; sprouting a third arm and hand to clamp with barstock bridging the ribs, including DP's without slots at all. Uncomfortable, troublesome too - finding tailors accustomed to fitting oddly placed appendages.

Hello Captainleeward, I really like your solution,I have one of those drill presses with the open slot round tables as well, additionally I have one with a larger square table with the T slots milled in, both are floor models. The round one just like yours is a royal pain to try and clamp anything down on. the table in my opinion is too thin to actually use the slotted holes for much. So after I found a vice with built in X & Y movement I mounted it to that table to take care not to potentially break out the slots I used strips of 1/4 by 1 1/2 Flat bar as washers underneath. I use my other drill press for any thing that does not require a vice.
