Easy Stand for Grinder, Vise, Arbor Press, etc.

I made this stand (first 2 photos) for a grinder, but it could be used for a variety of purposes. On this one, I used a round Walker Turner drill press base weighing about 40 lbs. Top sleeve is 3 1/4" OD x 1/4" wall DOM. Longer bottom tube is 2 3/4" OD x 1/4" wall DOM. Plate at top is 12" x 10" x 1/2" hot roll. Both ends of the 2 3/4" DOM had to be turned down a few thousandths, as DOM is slightly oversize. Stand can be quickly disassembled by loosening a few set screws.

The third photo shows a larger, 55 lb. Craftsman base used on a second grinder stand. Fourth photo shows two large Walker Turner bases used for a couple of mag. drill stands. All the stands are quite heavy as is, but could be made even heavier by capping the bottom of the tube and filling with sand.

If you're going to do the sand-fill, you might want to put the smaller DOM on the bottom. Good repurposing of old drill press bases...

I'm not sure I understand your comment. The smaller DOM is on the bottom. Please explain.
