I used to work for a guy that made a TON of money doing this. He dropped an excavator on top of a building, and the excavator would pick away at the floor until it made a pile of debris. Then it would push the debris down to the next level to make a ramp. Then it would demolish the remaining pieces of the upper floor, and start on the next. Repeat all the way down the building. Not as fast as implosion but WAY cheaper if you consider how much protection structures around the demolition require.
