    Extinguishing an oil well fire using a nuke - GIF

    In 1966, the Soviets successfully extinguished a 3-year long oil well fire in southern Uzbekistan by detonating a 30-kiloton nuclear bomb.

    In the late 1990,s the Uzbekistan government used a tank fired tactical nuclear weapon to put out a well fire. This one was a atmospheric detonation.
