Our local fire stations use a similar system to that for the same reasons. They also keep supplied compressed air hose to the air brake systems so they don't have to wait to build up pressure before leaving the station. They employed a "break-away" type air fitting which they did not have to disconnect. Well one time it did not release as expected. They looked back and the station air compresser was bobbing along down the street about 50 or 60 feet behind the fire engine.
