harrumph.....Gleason may have the name and big market share; but IMNSHO owe a large portion of that success to a Swiss toolmaker in 1788, becoming Reishauer AG. Open the headstock of most any high quality lathe, almost regardless age but good maintenance, the engaging faces barely show wear. A good part of that depends on the surface finish wet-ability to retain lube, along with the most perfect gear forms possible.
