The water in the paper towels makes this less sensitive to getting the time exactly right. The part can't heat up much beyond the boiling point of water until the water has boiled out of the paper towels.

For frozen hot dogs I use two soaked paper towels wrapped around it and 60 seconds. I don't have any idea how long you cook a bearing though.
